Ordinary Magic

Wine stains, cabbage stains, flower and fauna leaf, stem and petals stain, tea and coffee stains.
It is all the stuff of ordinary magic.
Put a frame around it and it is art.
Hang it on a wall and call it art.
If it brings you joy, it is art.
Joy is art.
Life is joy and art, suffering and healing.

For the month of March, the walls at Puget Sound Community Credit Union (PSCCU) will be filled with my art from the flower and fauna around me on my property and from the community where I live, farm, cook and make art.
Join me First Friday, March 1, 6-8 PM  beverages, treats and conversation about what brings YOU joy.

Botanical steam pressed and TaTaki Zome  prints on watercolor paper, finished with cold wax. Frames made from reclaimed wood.

Tataki Zome is a method of direct transfer of color and pattern from flowers and leaves. A hammer and a little muscle on paper or fabric releases the color and pattern from fresh cut flowers and leaves. The top side of flowers and leaves provide a similar but different pattern from the underside of same, making the underside a shadow image.

Steam pressed flowers and leaves create a dreamy watercolor effect. Again, there is a similar but different image with the top side vs. the bottom side.

It is all ordinary magic to me as I am delightedly surprised with each piece every time. Each “reveal” inspires me to make another and another and another…
